InterHealth has changed so much since 1989, when we had just three members of staff.

Agata Perepeczko

Background

Agata trained as a clinical psychologist in Poland and is currently working in London towards her chartership status as an Occupational Psychologist. Before joining InterHealth, Agata was working with families, single mothers, people with learning difficulties and patients with mental health problems. She was also working for a corporate organisation on various projects, which were put in place in order to improve organisational productivity. Her interests are around organisational issues and supporting individuals in developing their full potential. She is interested in combining a clinical and organisational approach in improving the well being of employees, volunteers and missionaries. She is very interested in methods of increasing self esteem and confidence in women. In her spare time she likes skiing, playing squash, drawing and travelling.

Background

After ten years in Latin America, Annie returned to UK & trained as a Psychotherapist. She is a specialist in trauma psychology & psychotherapy. She oversees the Psychological Health Services at InterHealth. Along with the delivery of Psychological Health Services, she works with colleagues and partners in UK and Kenya with a focus on extending proactive evidence based training and service relevant for aid workers recruited in their own countries.

Dr Beth Hill is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist. Prior to training as a Clinical Psychologist she served with the mission agency, Africa Inland Mission in Kenya and Uganda. Following the completion of her training, Beth worked in Sri Lanka supporting a local NGO to support war and Tsunami affected families. Beth works at InterHealth on a Thursday. The rest of her week she works in an NHS Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Hackney. She has experience of working with individuals and families in a range of settings including following trauma and utilises an integrative approach to therapeutic work. Beth offers a broad range of InterHealth appointments to suit all needs.

Evelyn is a Consultant Psychiatrist and combines her work at InterHealth with a post as an NHS consultant in London. She is a Foundation Member of the Faculty of Travel Medicine (Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow) and has travelled to Asia, Africa and North America in relation to her role at InterHealth and her interest in mission. She is part of the team offering psychological health services and is also available for psychiatric consultation.

Background

Mark is a psychodynamic counsellor with a particular specialism in trauma. He is a member of the BACP, having trained at WPF Therapy, Brighton University, the Anna Freud Centre and the Tavistock Centre. Mark is a seasoned trainer with extensive international experience of working with a variety of client groups including aid workers, missionaries, journalists, police and military personnel. He is also a trained workplace mediator. Prior to training as a therapist, Mark worked as an international delegate with the British Red Cross Society, completing a number of short and long-term missions in Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. He began his career as a news agency journalist in the Far East.

Background

Ruth is a UKCP registered and BACP senior accredited psychotherapist, having trained in Psychosynthesis. Ruth is also an accredited pastoral supervisor. She worked in a range of contexts before joining InterHealth in 2011 and has additional training in bereavement and loss. Ruth has a special interest in working with church leaders, with a focus on equipping clergy psychologically for the demands of their role. Ruth’s travels have taken her to Ghana, Cuba and Morocco and she currently takes an active part in a multi-cultural community in South London.

Background
David is a Clinical Psychologist and has studied psychology at Oxford and Keele. He worked with NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health services in Oxfordshire for several years, and now works out of Nottingham. He has travelled overseas extensively supporting missions. He offers assessment and consultation to families and mission personnel on issues relating to child and adolescent mental health and safeguarding in mission. David is married to Debbie Hawker and they have one son.

Debbie is a clinical psychologist who works out of Nottingham. She has previously worked at the Oxford University Psychiatry Department for nine years. She is a consultant with People In Aid, a visiting lecturer at All Nations Christian College, a retreat leader and has authored five books. She has travelled to over 35 countries to offer support to mission personnel; often following traumatic events. Her specialist areas include eating disorders, trauma, stress and depression. She provides services for children as well as adults, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Debbie is married to David Hawker and they have one son.

Cathy joined InterHealth in January 1997 after helping to place hundreds of short-term volunteers in Latin America with Latin Link. She has held a number of different roles at InterHealth and is now responsible for managing InterHealth's online health news and advice. Cathy was born in Argentina, was brought up in Peru and came to the UK for further education. She studied for a Geography degree at Cambridge University, specialising in international development and the enviroment. She has also completed a Certificate in Management of Voluntary Organisations through the Open University and a Foundation Course in Travel Medicine at Glasgow University. Cathy enjoys baking and playing tennis in her time off and walking in the Peak District with her family. She is also developing a partnership between a local nursery in Derby and two nurseries in deprived districts in Lima, Peru.

Emley has a passion for travel, which started when she moved to Hong Kong at the age of 8. She returned to the UK to undertake her BSc (Hons) in Nursing Sciences and then worked in Hull, Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and finally in St. Thomas’ Hospital, London. During this time in London she completed the Diploma in Tropical Nursing at LSHTM. This sparked an interest in how culture affects medical practice and led her to undertake a Masters in Medical Anthropology at Brunel University. Emley started her nursing career in travel health at Nomad Travel in 2006 and at InterHealth since 2007 while undertaking her Masters after which she took a break to work and travel in India, and have her daughter. She currently works with both InterHealth and Nomad whilst also teaching Travel Health to Practice Nurses.

Background

Jane trained as a nurse in Belfast and graduated from Queen’s University in 2005. She went on to work as a nurse in Coronary care for six years before taking a sabbatical. She then moved to London and completed a Diploma in Tropical Nursing from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The opportunity to work at InterHealth came up in November 2012 and Jane is delighted to be working here twice a week.

Judith has worked in Palestine in an Ophthalamic Hospital and in rural Pakistan as a midwife and CMS Mission Partner. She now works part-time in the Travel Health nursing team, and as a fair trader volunteer with Traidcraft outside work.

Kerryann moved to London from Australia in 2006 working as a Paediatric Intensive care nurse until 2009 while studying for the Diploma in Tropical Nursing at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine. Towards the end of this course she started working part-time at InterHealth as a Travel Health Nurse while continuing casually as a PICU nurse. At the end of 2009 she started working full time in her current roles. Kerryann’s role as Patient Journey Manager has involved developing InterHealth’s clinical services to be more accessible to our clientele while they are working in resource poor parts of the world. Hence most of her work has been focussed on creating and developing our MyHealth service and managing health information online.

Lynda graduated from the University of Ulster in 2002 with BSc (Hons) Nursing where she had an elective in Mexico’s Sierra Madre mountains. Immediately after training she set off to Africa to nurse in Malawi. In 2005 after returning from an Indonesian Tsunami relief team she decided to pursue a Diploma in Tropical Nursing at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She enjoys travelling the lesser travelled roads from the jungles of Laos, to Mongolia’s higher peaks and to Central Asia’s plains giving her an insight into many different cultures and lifestyles.

Annette has been in OH since 1987 and has worked in the Education sector, NHS, British Transport Police and was a Senior Lecturer at the Royal College of Nursing Institute. Prior to joining InterHealth, Annette was working as an independent OH Consultant for 6 years; providing advice to clients in private businesses, logistics, RAF sites, naval bases, councils and leisure centres. As well as leading the team and performing clinical work, Annette provides professional supervision for OH students on placement from University. Annette has recently completed qualifications in Occupational Health Law.

Daniel started with InterHealth in May 2011. He graduated in 1995 from the University of Edinburgh and completed training as a general practitioner in 2004. Before coming to InterHealth he was a part-time volunteer for the Médecins du Monde clinic for vulnerable migrants in London. He is an enthusiastic traveller and has also worked in Guatemala, Peru, Viet Nam and Australia. He is a site co-director for the GeoSentinel network and also coordinates InterHealth’s medical research activity. His clinical interests include health protection, infectious diseases and global occupational health.

Following his undergraduate training at Guy’s Hospital (q. 1986) and 3 years on a GP Training Scheme (MRCGP 1991), Simon worked in East Africa in primary health care & public health between 1996 and 2002. On return to the UK he became Clinical Director of InterHealth (2002 – 2008) before undergoing specialist training in occupational medicine (MFOM 2011). Simon is on the Specialist Register for Occupational Medicine and currently divides his time between NATS, the main provider of Air Traffic services for the UK, and InterHealth. Combining his expertise in travel & occupational medicine, Simon has a special interest in the occupational health aspects of international working. In his spare time he is church warden of his local Anglican Church and keeps in shape cycling to work, running & learning how to swim.

Mary has a broad nursing background in General medical and surgical nursing, Orthopaedics and Cardiac Intensive Care. She trained at the Clare Maxwell Hudson School of Massage Therapy and went on to set up her own practice working with a variety of different patients, the majority of whom were adults undergoing treatment for cancer. Whilst working with the charity SENSE, first on a voluntary basis then employed by SENSE, she worked with sensory impaired children and ran training courses in massage skills, supporting both the children, their families and the staff over a ten year period. She then took her degree in OH and gained experience in both the public and private sectors, initially employed by a leading UK health care provider, working at the Forensic Science Service. She has worked at InterHealth for the last four years and also works part time for a major global retail organisation.

Ola started at InterHealth as an OH student on placement in 2008 whilst studying Occupational Health Nursing at Brunel University. On qualifying as an OH Advisor, she stayed on to work at InterHealth. Prior to OH, Ola worked as a staff nurse within an acute NHS trust gaining experiences on an Admissions Unit and Intensive Care Unit. She works part time at InterHealth.

Claire graduated in 1996 from St Bartholomew's medical college. Her overseas experience began in 1997 as a medical officer with Operation Raleigh in Uganda. She undertook the Diploma in Tropical Medicine at the London School of Tropical Medicine in 2000. This lead her to India as part of the STOP Polio project, followed by a year in chronic disease management in Ethiopia. In 2006 she took part in a challenge to buy a car for less than a hundred pounds and drive across the Sahara. She subsequently wrote the health chapter for The Overlanders’ Handbook. Claire continues to work one day a week as a GP with a diverse population in East London.

Clare has worked as a GP in the East End of London since 1989 and started work at InterHealth in April 2004. She enjoys this opportunity to help people remain well for their work overseas. Clare also does some work teaching medical students. Having developed a hearing impairment, Clare is a founder member of the information and support network, UK Health Professionals with Hearing Loss.

Helen has trained as a General Practitioner and completed the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. She was born and brought up in Kenya and has been particularly interested in health issues of East Africa since, returning at various times in her career to Tanzania and Uganda. More recently she spent 18 months South Sudan working with Medair on a programme to establish Primary Health Care services in a remote area. She has also worked in a voluntary medical capacity in Belize and travelled around the Central American region. She is currently enjoying juggling her studies towards a Masters in Public Health in Developing Countries at the London School of Tropical Medicine, alongside her role at InterHealth.

In the 1980s he lived in the Himalayas, setting up health programmes in mountain villages and refugee camps. Ted also leads Community Health Global Network (CHGN), and is a regular speaker at international conferences on both travel medicine and global health. He is a Foundation Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and until 2012 was on the Leadership Council of the International Society of Travel Medicine. Ted has written several books including The Travellers Good Health Guide 2006, the Berlitz Travel Health Pocket Guide 2007, various textbook chapters on travel medicine, and Setting up Community Health Programmes: a practical manual for use in developing countries, currently being revised as 4rh edition. He is married with three daughters and his interests include travel, cross country running, health care mission and biodiversity.

Vanessa trained at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne undertaking her medical elective in Zimbabwe and Malawi. After graduation she spent a year in Emergency Medicine before going to Central America as a volunteer. Vanessa continued her Emergency medicine training in Australia and then returned to the UK to train as a GP. Prior to joining InterHealth in 2005, she worked as Medical Adviser to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for 3 years providing all aspects of expatriate health. In 2004 she completed a Diploma in Travel Medicine and gained the International Certificate in Travel Medicine in 2005. She is a Fellow of the Faculty of Travel Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and a named expert in Travel Medicine at the World Health Organization. Vanessa also works part-time as Joint Director of the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC).

Catherine joined InterHealth in September 2011 after completing a degree in Politics & Development Studies from The University of Leeds. She spent a year of her studies at The Australian National University and completed a research internship at The Australian Houses of Parliament. Her passion lies in international development and she has spent time volunteering on preventative healthcare projects in indigenous communities. Away from her desk, Catherine enjoys exploring the world, learning French, reading, and is currently working on her own jewellery collection.
Debbie Ralph

Debbie joined in InterHealth in June 2006. She trained as a medical secretary after having triplets in 1989. She has previously worked at Havering and Redbridge hospitals in various roles and disciplines, as well as in psychiatry with the Mental Health Act and care in the community administration. She originally had a civil service role before having children, where she worked for government ministers. When Debbie is not in her working role she enjoys tap dancing and performs in amateur stage events, as well as playing badminton and attending charity balls and various music events.

Heena started working at InterHealth in July 2012 and loves her role. Her passion for working in a charitable organisation stemmed from working with other charities and participating in charity events over the years such as a trek in the Sahara Desert in November 2012. She has studied Event Management at Manchester Metropolitan University and assists her sister with an Events Décor company in her spare time.

Kylie joined InterHealth in November 2010 as part of the Reception and Client Support team. She is a graduate in English Language and Education, which she studied at Roehampton University. Before joining InterHealth she completed a voluntary year with her church, working on various projects and studying Theology. She enjoys travelling and learning Spanish in her spare time. Her interest in different cultures and languages has recently led her to help establish an International Café to enable students to improve their English, and make friendships.

Lisa joined InterHealth in September 2009 as Reception and Client Support Manager after spending 7 months working on the Costa del Sol. She previously worked for Channel 4 and Citigroup. In February 2010 Lisa was part of the team who visited Peru to attend a conference and visit various ongoing projects. This was a fantastic opportunity to meet both short and long term mission partners, and hear about their experiences first-hand and how InterHealth can better support them.

Nico studied at the London College of Music and graduated with Merit awards. After a fruitful career in music he turned his sights on the charitable sector. He founded his own organisation, ‘This Is In Flux’, which looks at exposing the truths behind Human Trafficking. Nico primarily looks after our travel shop as well as supporting the clinicians throughout the day.

Tom graduated in Economics from Loughborough University in 2010. He started at InterHealth as a Finance Intern and is now part of the Client Services Team taking a lead in Occupational Health Administration. After studying Mandarin at school and in Beijing, he developed an interest in the language and would like to continue studying the language and explore work opportunities in China in the future. Tom has an interest in finance and is also currently studying for an MSc in Finance & Investment (part-time).

Andrew is responsible for the finance and administrative function at InterHealth. Coming from a legal background, Andrew spent 5 years on secondment from Tear Fund managing Kagando Rural Development Centre in western Uganda from 1992 to 1997. His subsequent roles have been as Director of Administration at a large church in Bracknell, and as Finance Manager for the charity, for dementia. Andrew has been involved in several more recent initiatives in Uganda, and also maintains a regular link with Kagando.

Dilnoza studied finance in the Russian Federation, and has gained subsequent experience in accounts and administration in the UK. Dilnoza joined InterHealth in February 2008 as a Finance Assistant. Julie joined InterHealth in September 2006 as our Reception Services Manager and is now PA to our Chief Executive, as well as looking after HR and various administration functions within the organisation. After many years in the banking sector, and following time out to travel, Julie took a career change and worked as a receptionist in a busy GP surgery. It was here that she discovered her interest in healthcare, in particular assisting those who needed travel health advice. When Julie is not travelling, you can find her at the gym, socialising with friends or pottering around her garden.

Kevin comes with a wealth of senior management experience in both the private and voluntary sector, most recently leading Pecan, a faith based charity working with long term unemployed people in South London. Kevin is married to a GP, is the father of eight children and lives in Hackney. He has a long- term interest in the developing world, having travelled widely. His parents worked in Nepal for many years.

Leanne has been with InterHealth since September 2009. She is focused on our international training programme and developing our first regional hub in East Africa. Before joining InterHealth Leanne completed a degree in International Development Studies with Law and has been with various organisations on short trips to Uganda, South Africa, Haiti and Myanmar. She is now completing a Masters in International Humanitarian Psychosocial Consultation.

Liliane enjoys working in the charity sector and has worked with the Clapham Park Project and Cancer Research in the past.

Peter joined InterHealth after Easter 2009 from a long career in the software industry. Peter’s work passions focus on the collection and use of accurate data, for which he feels InterHealth is in a unique position, and helping those around him to work better by the appropriate application of IT. Away from the keyboard Peter is studying towards a statistics degree and enjoys marshalling stage rallies.

Ruchi joined InterHealth in December 2012 and has worked with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, World Vision Australia and CNBC-TV18 (India) in the past. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from St. Xavier’s College, University of Mumbai and a Master’s degree in Public Relations from the Xavier Institute of Communications. Ruchi is a trained Indian classical dancer and teaches Bollywood dancing in her spare time.
